WHAT IS A FISHER HOUSE?
A Fisher House is “a home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. There are 91 Fisher Houses located in the US, Germany and United Kingdom as of March 2021.
Fisher House Southern California, Inc. supports four Fisher Houses throughout Southern California including the VA Long Beach Healthcare System, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, and Naval Medical Center San Diego. Here’s a closer look at the houses we support:

Fisher House Southern California, Inc. (FHSC) also serves as the community outreach and 501(c)(3) charity to support the two Fisher Houses at the Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD). The first Fisher House at this location was built in 1993 and was the third Fisher House ever built. FHSC works closely with the NMCSD Fisher House managers to coordinate volunteers, and contributions of services and materials to improve the stays of the service members and veteran families at the two Fisher Houses at this location.
Most recently, the Secretary of the Navy recognized the NMCSD Fisher House as among the “best of the best” in lodging operations. The NMCSD Fisher House was one of 14 Navy Gateway Inns & Suites, and Fisher House activities that received the 2017 Admiral Elmo R. Zumwalt Award.
Named after the 19th Chief of Naval Operations, the award recognizes lodging facilities for exceeding the highest standards of excellence in the areas of management, facilities, finance and customer service, according to a November 14, 2017 announcement released by Secretary of the Navy, Richard V. Spencer.
