Greetings from Fisher House Southern California!
As you may know, Fisher House Southern California Inc. was incorporated in 2013, consisting of a group of military veterans, American Gold Star Mothers, American Legion members and Rotary members, tasked with the mission of raising $3.0 million to help build the new Fisher House at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. With your assistance, we completed this mission, and the Fisher House Long Beach was opened to host families in November 2016.
Since FHSC’s incorporation, our all-volunteer Board of Directors also committed to serving as the “Friends of Fisher House” organization to support the up-and-running Fisher House at the Naval Hospital-Camp Pendleton and the two existing Fisher Houses at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, while continuing to support the Long Beach Fisher House.
Our mission to serve military families at these four Fisher Houses continues beyond funding the initial construction costs. Your contributions are meaningful in taking care of these families at a time of great need. Examples include providing occasional meals, grocery gift cards and restocking pantry shelves. Bigger ticket items that we’ve provided recently include a new golf cart for the San Diego Fisher Houses to transfer families and patients to and from the hospital, converting a former children’s playroom into a bedroom for additional guest room capability, and rehabbing/replacing outdoor furniture. We are also funding a new water filtration system for the Camp Pendleton Fisher House.
With your help, FHSC is providing 15,330 free nights of temporary housing each year.
